Why have to hassle subs about cleaning up grout stains from followup trades (and probably end up paying for it) when you can have the work sealed and protected by the installing contractor before leaving each day. See

The following are common practices and concepts used by installing contractors for many years. These practices have built in risk that you can avoid.

  1. "Pre-sealing" - using a sealer as a grout release. This can cause many problems later on in the jobs life. It is not necessary. Please see the  "Problem Solving"  section on "Pre-sealing".

  2. Muriatic acid cleaning is high risk cleaning, especially inside a structure. The acid causes metal etching fumes (rust spots), powders out grout, and is generally dangerous. And, it is not necessary. Please see the  "Problem Solving"  section on cement stains & smears from grouting or mortar to see a safer, but just as strong, solution.
