Step Two: The other things a sealer can do for you.

Aldon sealers are designed to perform well, despite job conditions less than optimal. However, it may be surprising to know what else an Aldon sealer will do. Which sealer is the best choice can also include goals such as:

  • Color Enhancement : Bring natural colors to life ( Wet Look )  and make minor color problems disappear - similar to when you wet the surface with water - see column  Enh .

Note: The amount of color enhancement can vary from zero to quite a bit.  Generally, but not always, there is very little enhancement on porous materials like Mexican tile and standard clay brick, and a lot of color enhancement on denser surfaces like concrete slabs, quarry tile, etc.  However, there also might not be any color enhancement on a dense surface like polished marble.  Therefore, you can only get an idea from an actual test. • Densify : Strengthen weak, powdery, crumbly, erosion prone materials. Improve "tuck point" mortar restoration - see column  Den

  • Efflorescence Barrier : Stop white, powdery efflorescence stains - see column  Bar

A Y or N in a column in the "Step 3" box below indicates if the sealer has that attribute.

The right sealer can be used on surfaces that would normally not be sealed and do not need protection. This would be done to bring some gloss to a dull finish as with some porcelain tile.

There is a tremendous amount of bad information about what you can and cannot do with sealers. Also, there are dozens of questions that you may have in relation to your project. Visit the     page to review all the questions, including -- "Indoor/Outdoor?" (all Aldon sealers are used for both), "Do they breathe?" (they do!), "Solvent vs. water base?", "How long before it needs to be redone?" (should not be needed), Any question that begins "Can I ......".
