PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Provides a strong cleaner to remove grout residue without all the problems and dangers caused by using muriatic acid:
  • Removes grout residue stains even if they have been there for several years.
  • Removes very heavy hard water mineral deposits and crystalline efflorescence.
  • Provides a safer way to convert marble and limestone to an antique, aged look (See issue in FAQ & Problem Solving).
  • Muriatic acid creates metal rusting fumes.
  • Muriatic acid can break down the grout surface by reaction with the cement (powdering) and reveal sand grains. This can drastically change the grout surface appearance.
  • Muriatic acid will burn and discolor some light colored surfacing and grouts.
  • Sulfamic acid is safer than muriatic acid, but being relatively weak, requires too much time and effort.
ITEMS OF INTEREST: This product is:
  • A hydrochloric acid mixture with other buffering and cleaning components.
  • As strong a cleaning action as muriatic acid.
  • Has considerably reduced risk of metal rusting and etching.
  • Is much safer than muriatic acid.
  • Is much stronger than sulfamic acid.
  • This product is not used to remove sealers. For that purpose, see "Premium Stripper".
  • This product, like all acidic liquids, will react with limestone, marble, and concrete products and should be diluted and tested prior to use on these materials. This also applies to surfacing that is a composite containing one of these reactive materials.
However, the product would have to be overused to a high degree to see any negative effect on clay tile and brick, glazed tiles, porcelain tile, natural stone (other than limestones and marbles), quarry tile, terracotta tile, Mexican tile, etc.
  • Vegetation - although we have never heard of harm to vegetation from washing off this product, some vegetation is more sensitive than others and it is better to not allow any chemicals to contact any vegetation.
  • See the product label reproduction below for all the information on surface preparation, application technique, drying time, etc. This label reproduction will always be the most current. Because we are constantly improving information and passing on tips from users, this could be more up to date than the label on the container.
  • This product can be used immediately after grouting, or years later. The only difference with increased age of the grout residue stains is that the grout residue is more cured and might require additional treatment(s) to remove. However, do not use if grout is still fresh and soft. Use only after grout has cured.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

If you do not see the results you expect:

It is not a problem with the product! (They all do what we say they do!)

  1. Your conditions may have been misdiagnosed! (It can happen, even with all the information we provide.)
  2. The surface conditions (absorption rate, contaminents, temperatures, etc.) are other than thought.
  3. And/or - it was not applied per label instructions! (The instructions are designed to overcome items 1 and 2 above, and overcome job conditions of which you might not be aware.)

Remove grout stains
When you read all the health and safety warnings, you will see we have done our best to make you think about working with any chemicals from any manufacturer. Even household cleaners purchased in supermarkets (many with more hazardous ingredients than we use due to cost factors) should be used with common sense and awareness. People have been injured by not knowing you can create poisonous gases by mixing chlorine bleach with some cleaning products. One of the many criteria involved in Aldon products is that all our products will be used with any other of our products and no normal combination of usage events should be hazardous. Nevertheless, use common sense and don't be in a hurry. Let each step prove itself satisfactorily before proceeding to the next.
