Problem: Using Internet Explorer 8 and Windows 7 - some buttons & links do not work.

4/30/10: This is a known issue and recently discovered. It has to do with IE 8 and Win 7 and how they handle javascript. This problem occurs on all web sites that use javascript extensively as we do on the Aldon web site. This appears to be limited only to machines running 64 bit Windows 7 with IE8. The 32 bit Windows 7 is reported to not have this problem.

Effect: The links are disabled and nothing happens when you click. If you have the browser set to open another tab instead of new windows, the tab activates but is blank.

It is a considerable annoyance and we are investigating. We will post the fix here when we find it, or Microsoft develops it. Why Microsoft allows this situation is hard to understand. In any case, here are two easy solutions.

There is no problem at all if you use the "Firefox" browser. You can download it at: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html

There is also no problem using the Google "Chrome" Browser. You can download it at: http://www.google.com/chrome/?brand=CHMB&utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-sk&utm_medium=ha

Our testing shows that this problem does not exist with IE6 or IE7. It does not exist with IE8 on an XP machine. It is only with IE8 running on Windows 7 machines. This is a good example why it is a good idea to have Firefox and/or Chrome on your computer in addition to Internet Explorer.

5/6/10 - The problem has been defined at this point as Windows 7 64 bit (not 32 bit) and IE 8 have been written to not be able to handle older versions of javascript. Like the Aldon web site, there are huge numbers of web sites using javascript from a few years ago. Nobody is going to revise millions of web pages to accomodate this. We expect that Microsoft will revise their code to accomodate the situation. Meanwhile, see above about Firefox and Chrome.
