SURFACE PREPARATION: Do Not Preseal (sealing prior to grouting). Instead, use Aldon "Grout Easy" grout release. Surface must be ABSOLUTELY DRY, between 50-80 ºF., CLEAN, free of all substances that may cause a reaction (i.e., acids) or impair adhesion and penetration (i.e.,previous sealers). Do not use over, or under, any other sealer. Pre-clean metallic surfaces with lacquer thinner to remove oils. If previously sealed - BEFORE proceeding see PROBLEM SOLVING: “Redoing A Previously Sealed Surface"
APPLICATION TECHNIQUE : PATCH TEST FIRST. Maintain adequate cross ventilation until fully cured. Wear solvent resistant gloves and all else necessary to protect breathing, eyes, and skin. TIP: surfaces cooler in morning. Shake can before using. Point button opening at surface and spray using a steady back and forth stroking motion. Adjust distance from surface, rate and overlap of strokes to get a complete, but light uniform coat that looks glossy wet (rather than a heavy coat which might run or sag). Spray a test area first and develop a technique before spraying the main area. Any ripples should self-level. Allow 30 minutes between additional coats. Avoid spraying when relative humidity is above 60%. If blushing (milky look) occurs, allow to clear before recoating. Do not judge effectiveness of application by color. Test as follows - more sealer is needed if water drops absorb (darken) after a few minutes of sitting on the surface. If technique or absorption differences result in uneven gloss or color enhancement with a first application, a second application will blend easily to create an even finish. Do not add coats to build up sealer beyond an even gloss. As a general rule for average applications (varies with humidity) the sealer will be: dry to touch in 1 hour, dry hard in 24 hours, cured in 3 days. Use lacquer thinner on a clean white cloth to remove dry sealer from unwanted surfaces or to lower gloss level. Cleaning: Clean valve by turning can upside down, point away from you and spray 3 seconds. If spray button becomes clogged during use, pull it from can, rinse in lacquer thinner, replace promptly with a gentle twisting motion pointing away from you. Do not stick pin or other object into spray button. Do not spray near sparks, heat or open flames. Vapors can accumulate and under certain conditions, could ignite. Keep area well ventilated during use and until all vapors are gone. Do not smoke! Extinguish all flames, pilot lights and heaters. Turn off stoves, appliances, and any other sources of ignition. ROUTINE CARE OF FINISH: Only clean as needed with soap and water. See Aldon “Insta-Clean” for more intense cleaning needs like tree or bird droppings. It will not hurt the sealer and is also an excellent cleaner for all outdoor furniture.
